Lastly, I have a few gripes with Dirac Live that I would like to see addressed before it takes over the world.

I also rarely see reviewers fully understanding how to set up Audyssey correctly to level the playing field. I don’t see a lot of reviewers or sites fully explaining the pros and cons of each technology.

I'd be VERY interested in hearing from someone who has the software and even MORE bonus points for a Dirac owner who's tried other room correction DSP's, particularly the two free ones that I mentioned.Since more and more companies are switching to Dirac Live in their receivers – Onkyo and Pioneer being two of the latest ones to do so – I thought it would be important to compare Dirac to Audyssey and YPAO. Side question: Has anyone here actually bought Dirac Live? How do you like it and is it worth the hefty price tag (especially since there are free room correction software out there that are favorably regarded within the HIFI community (miniDSP's REW) and MathAudio's Room EQ)? Now, how that would transfer over to an actual music file, which is very distant from an impulse, I have NO idea. Maybe the "tail" of the impulse is reduced because the "tail" is composed of room reflections, instead of an unwanted electronical characteristic of a power amplifier/speaker? If the tail IS a product the power amplifier/speaker, then I think that the DSP must edit the input signal (very quickly) and reduce the tail of the response. Again, I thought that the impulse response was a based on how well an amplifier/speaker handled a brief and loud signal composed of all frequencies (in theory). How does a DSP remove (or at least greatly reduce) the "tail" of an impulse? Do they do it by manipulating the time domain, or am I grasping at straws here? What confuses me more is that they talk about the impulse response being different depending on the measuring position in a room. How does Dirac Live alter the impulse response of a speaker? I thought that it (the impulse response) was a product of the power amplifier and the speakers physical/electrical properties. Subreddit's theme is /r/Minimaluminiumalism.
